TL:DR
Looking for real-world professional headshot examples for beauty entrepreneurs that blend personality, strategy, and visual flair? In this case study, we explore an on-location shoot with independent beauty expert Rachel Whittaker in Marbella’s Old Town. You’ll see how intentional brand photography, adapted to brand goals and a hot climate, can elevate visibility for entrepreneurs in the beauty space and beyond.
A Personal Branding Case Study with Real Impact
Not every headshot session is about ticking a box. For some entrepreneurs, it becomes the moment they finally step into full visibility. This was exactly the case for Rachel Whittaker, a beauty industry expert and visibility coach, who joined me for a strategic brand shoot during a luxury retreat in Marbella.
What began as a way to refresh her brand visuals soon became the catalyst for a much bigger leap. After our session, Rachel repurposed these headshots across her Instagram and Facebook presence. She later launched her podcast and YouTube channel, using our shoot as the foundation for a more confident, content-led approach to marketing.

About This Musician Headshot Photography Case Study
Elevating a Beauty Brand with Strategic Headshots
When I photographed Rachel Whittaker in Marbella’s Old Town, she was leading the UK-based company Indie Beauty Delivers. The business supported indie beauty brands with product distribution and visibility. Rachel also had a growing presence as a visibility coach for creative founders, encouraging others to step out of the shadows and show up more powerfully in their brands.
This shows how images can reflect a founder’s personality and values, while creating usable content for multiple platforms. Working with a Personal Brand structure in your business creates flexibility to be agile in what you want to offer, and how that naturally progresses and changes over time.
Her brand was bold, approachable, and grounded in the real beauty industry. Not glossy barbie-doll perfection, but strategic authenticity. She wanted photos that captured all of that.
From Selfies to Strategy: Why She Chose a Pro
Rachel was preparing for a leap in visibility. She was moving from community-led work in the UK to a more global, digital-first approach. She needed a portfolio of professional headshots that would:
- Captured her warmth and no-nonsense personality
- Reflected her deep roots in the beauty industry
- It could be used across her website, content, and social platforms
- Helped her move beyond DIY selfies while staying recognisably “her”
This is a goal I hear from many clients, especially founders in the wellness and beauty sectors. They want to feel visible and professional, without losing their individuality. If that sounds like you, take a look at how I work with clients to create bespoke personal branding shoots that support your bigger visibility goals.
Shooting in Marbella: Light, Location and Adaptation
Rachel and I met during a luxury retreat in Marbella hosted by Yvonne Radley. She works with fitness professionals looking to elevate their brand. It was a 6-star environment for big-picture thinking, making it the perfect place for brand-aligned photography.
We chose to shoot in Marbella’s Old Town, known for its narrow streets, pastel buildings, and floral details. This felt like a natural fit for Rachel’s aesthetic, which included soft pinks and lots of botanical references.
Adapting for Harsh Sunlight
Shooting in a Southern European climate means working with intense sun, strong contrast and uneven lighting across narrow walkways, however Rachel’s husband, John, joined us as a reflector assistant. His help was key to bouncing light into shaded areas and helped reduce harsh shadows and avoid blown-out highlights.
Case in Point
One of the most striking backdrops we found was a deep pink door in the heart of Marbella’s Old Town. The reflector work here made all the difference, softening harsh shadows and ensuring Rachel’s skin tones stayed natural despite the strong midday light. It’s a perfect example of how technical adjustments can make location photography both beautiful and brand-true.
Also Used under Cali Sunshine
This kind of adaptation is something I also had to consider during my San Diego shoot with Christine. In both cases, the goal was the same: create clean, high-impact images with real personality, even under unpredictable light.

A Visual Strategy Rooted in Personality
Rachel and I built a visual strategy based on key themes from her brand:
1. Flora and Fauna
Rachel is a passionate gardener. She loved the connection between plants and product formulation in the beauty industry. Many of her clients were using botanical ingredients in their products. We brought subtle plant life into the shoot to reflect this, without tipping into “gardening show” territory.
In a Photography Context
One of the first locations we found was framed by a cascade of vibrant pink blooms. It was the perfect nod to Rachel’s passion for botanical beauty formulations. The floral backdrop worked in harmony with her brand colour palette. This created a natural yet striking setting for the opening shots of the day.

2. Pink, But Not Precious
Rachel’s brand colour palette included a muted, grown-up pink. We sought out walls and details around Marbella that picked up this tone. Paired with natural textures and shadow play, this kept the vibe grounded, not overly feminine.
Boldness Vs. Restraint is Key with Brand Colours
We also incorporated Rachel’s brand colour palette in more subtle ways, like here on the tiled steps of a quiet Old Town street. Her patterned trousers and bright pink heels gave a playful nod to her signature colour, without letting it overwhelm the scene. This balance between boldness and restraint is exactly what makes personal branding photography adaptable for different uses.
3. Friendly and Approachable
A lot of the beauty industry can feel polished or aloof. Rachel was the opposite. She wanted to be seen as relatable, real, and down-to-earth. The shoot focused on capturing natural gestures, genuine smiles, and relaxed poses.
This approach works best when there’s a clear set of brand visuals and rules to follow. If you don’t have these yet, I highly recommend reading this guide to brand guidelines. It can save time and money while making your visual content more effective.
A balance between authenticity and professionalism
One of my favourite moments from the day was capturing Rachel’s natural laugh against a two-tone pink wall. It’s exactly the kind of image that tells her audience she’s approachable and easy to work with, while still keeping her brand’s polished aesthetic intact. This balance between authenticity and professionalism is what makes these professional headshot examples for beauty entrepreneurs so versatile.

Multi-Purpose Brand Imagery That Works Hard
After the shoot, Rachel received a custom online gallery of her brand photos. These were selected to be immediately useful across every touchpoint of her business. Her collaborators, including web developers and content managers, had access to consistent, on-brand visuals for:
- Email campaigns
- YouTube content
- Online training
- Landing pages
- Instagram posts and
- Guest Speaker profiles
To enhance brand alignment, I retouched select images to enhance the pink tones without overpowering the natural look.
