Why Colour Matters in Female Branding

Creative headshots for female branding aren’t just about looking polished. They’re about showing your audience who you are at a single glance. For women leaders and entrepreneurs, colour can be a powerful tool. Bright tones communicate energy, approachability, and creativity. Muted palettes signal calm, confidence, and professionalism.

Psychology

Colour isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s strategic. As Bailey Maybray explains in Colour Psychology: How To Use it in Marketing and Branding, the right colour choices influence perception and emotions before you’ve even said a word. That’s why weaving colour into creative headshots for female branding is so effective. This is because it sets the tone for your personal brand instantly.

The Story Behind This Shoot

This session with Lyndsey took us to one of my favourite Newcastle Gateshead Quays backdrops, the rotating graffiti walls. Because the artwork is constantly changing, no two shoots ever look the same. Richard Tubb’s headshot session was shot here. So was this one with Amanda Webb. Yet each one feels completely different. That’s the beauty of using a dynamic location: every client gets something unique.

Tech. But Fun

Lyndsey came into this shoot ready to show her personality. At the time, she was running a successful SAAS business and launching an online summit. But she wanted her headshots to reflect more than her résumé. She wanted them to feel vibrant, fun, and fresh.

Personal Retouching

There was also a sensitive side to the shoot. Lyndsey was recovering from alopecia and wearing a wig. Therefore, she wanted reassurance that she would look natural and confident in her photos. We built in a little subtle retouching to blend the wig lines into her scalp. Not to erase her reality, but to make sure her headshots represented the self-assurance she wanted to project.

The Results: Creative Headshots with Colour and Confidence

Walking through Newcastle gave us a range of textures. Aswell as a variety of tones from bold graffiti walls to more understated urban backdrops. In the end, the final set of images captures what creative headshots for female branding are all about. This being personality, professionalism, and playfulness in equal measure.

The colours added vibrancy, but the styling kept everything rooted in Lyndsey’s brand. The result? Photos that work as hard as she does. Professional enough for client pitches, fun enough for online communities, and authentic enough to show the woman behind the business. That’s the heart of female personal branding photography. Visuals that feel true to you, but still elevate your presence.

Why Creative Headshots for Female Branding Work So Well

Women in leadership and entrepreneurship often face a double challenge: being seen as credible while also standing out in crowded markets. Creative headshots for female branding bridge that gap. These branding photos for women entrepreneurs are a powerful way to balance professionalism with personality, making you instantly recognisable.

Plus…

They also:

  • Highlight individuality in industries that can feel uniform or “grey.”

  • Build trust by showing approachability and personality.

  • Support confidence, especially when sensitive details (like styling, makeup, or hair loss recovery) are handled with care.

  • Give you versatile assets for websites, social media, and speaking engagements.

Colourful locations, bold outfits, or playful poses work well when the final images still communicate credibility and clarity about what you do. Traditionally being professional looked very grey and boring. Now, people respond and can relate to someone who they feel represents them. See how this has a wider branding impact here.
