Case Study: Hazel Lowndes’ Newcastle City Centre Brand Photography Shoot

For this shoot, I worked with Hazel Lowndes, an Organisational Development expert and the founder of Ginger Dog Consulting. Hazel is based in Cumbria but travelled to Newcastle City Centre for her brand photography session. This was to capture an urban yet approachable feel that aligns with her brand identity.

How We Incorporated Hazel’s Brand Colours

Hazel’s business, Ginger Dog Consulting, uses a rich, gingery orange as its signature brand colour. We intentionally incorporated this shade into her brand photography in the following ways:

  • Wardrobe Choices: Hazel wore accents of her brand colour in her clothing. This is to create a strong yet natural connection to her business identity.

  • Background Selection: We chose warm-toned urban settings in Newcastle. Which was done to subtly complemented the orange hues in her brand.
  • Lighting & Tone: The lighting setup ensured that her images reflected warmth, confidence, and approachability. Which are all key attributes of her consultancy.

The Newcastle City Centre Shoot Experience

Hazel chose Newcastle for her brand photography because of its dynamic cityscape and professional yet vibrant atmosphere. We shot in carefully selected locations that provided a balance between corporate credibility and approachability. This ensured her images reflected both professionalism and personality.

How to Use Your Brand Colours in Brand Photography for Female Entrepreneurs

For planning your own brand photography session, here are some tips for integrating brand colours effectively:

1. Choose Your Wardrobe Wisely

  • Wear clothing that includes your primary or accent brand colour.

  • If your brand colour is bold (like Hazel’s gingery orange), consider subtle touches like accessories, blazers, or undershirts.

  • For softer brand colours, opt for tonal variations to create depth.

2. Consider Your Background

  • Select locations that complement or contrast with your brand colours for a visually striking effect.

  • Urban settings, natural landscapes, or studio backdrops can be adapted to enhance brand identity.

3. Use Props or Branding Elements

  • If your brand has a signature look, incorporate these into your shots naturally. For an example, this could be a specific colour notebook, coffee cup, or product.

4. Think About the Mood & Lighting

  • Your brand colour can also influence the mood of your images. Warmer tones evoke energy and confidence, while cooler tones suggest calm and professionalism.

Elevate Your Personal Brand with Brand Photography for Female Entrepreneurs

A well-thought-out brand photography session should do more than just look good. It should tell a story about who you are and what your brand represents. Using your brand colours in your brand photography is a powerful way to build recognition.

As well as making a lasting impact.

Hazel’s Edit

To support Hazel in her editing, I met with her online to go over a private session preview gallery.

Together we worked on narrowing down images to a final selection. The selection contained authentic organisational development photography that met the original wish list.  It was important to ensure that wider team members like web designers, social media managers, graphic designers and the like would have plenty of on-brand photography to work with.

The Retouch

We had a variety of great natural light in this shoot. This translated into photography that was near to the final sign-off in-shot.  To polish things up a little bit, I did some selective detail sharpening. Such as making sure that the orange accessories worn in the session matched as close as possible to the Ginger Dog brand Orange in post-production.
